When I came to Gothenburg, one of the locations I had to visit was the Alvsborg Bridge. It is the 933 meter long suspension bridge over Gota alv. It was built in 1966, designed by Sven Olof Asplund, and it connects the north and the south part of the city.
The total length of the bridge, as I mentioned, is 933 meters, and the distance between the towers is 417 meters. The clearance below the bridge is 45 meters.
The pylons are 107 meters tall, making the bridge one of the Gothenburg’s most prominent landmarks.
It was painted green for the 1995 World Championship in Athletics which Gothenburg hosted, and the bridge was the finish line for the 2005-06 Volvo Ocean Race.
